Biography

Son of a boatman, Camille Bombois went through various professions, such as farm boy, circus wrestler or bobinier, before devoting himself fully to painting. He moved to Paris in 1907 and, on his return from the war of 1914 – 1918, decided to exhibit his works on the sidewalks of Montmartre. He was then spotted by the journalist Noël Bureau, and his works were published in Rythme & Synthèse. He was then discovered by Wilhelm Uhde, a German collector and dealer, who bought him a large portion of his production.…
